Black History Month is celebrated every February, but its roots go back nearly a century. In 1926, historian Carter G. Woodson started a week dedicated to Black history to highlight the contributions of Black Americans, choosing February to honor the birthdays of Abraham Lincoln and Frederick Douglass. Over time, this week grew into a month-long celebration, officially recognized in 1976. Today, Black History Month is a time to reflect on history, celebrate achievements, and inspire future generations—including our youngest learners!

Black History Month activities for preschoolers highlight Black culture, history, and influential leaders. Black History Month in February is a time to reflect on and celebrate the contributions of African Americans to our nation. In Denver, families with preschoolers can participate in various events and activities that will inspire your family to explore and honor these important stories.
