Back-to-school season is just around the corner, but there’s still plenty of time to make the most of summer with Denver family activities. August is filled with opportunities for Denver families to enjoy local attractions, festivals, and end-of-season adventures, many at a discount or even free.

Whether you’re planning one last family outing before school starts or simply looking for affordable ways to make memories together, we’ve rounded up some of the best late-summer deals and Denver family activities. Check them out below!

Explore Denver’s Farmers Markets

Spend a summer morning or warm weeknight exploring one of the many farmers markets in and around Denver! Families can shop for fresh produce, local foods, handmade goods and more while enjoying live music and a fun community atmosphere.

Many favorites, including the Union Station, Southwest Plaza 그리고 시티 파크 farmers markets, continue through October, giving families plenty of opportunities to visit throughout the season. If you’re looking for extra family fun, be sure to check out the Green Valley Ranch 그리고 Harvey Park farmers markets, which often feature children’s activities and entertainment. 덴버를 방문하세요 has a full list of farmers markets happening across the metro area for the 2026 season.

Cool Off at a Local Outdoor Waterpark

Beat the summer heat without stretching your budget at one of Denver area’s family-friendly waterparks. Great Outdoors Waterpark in Lafayette is open daily through Aug. 9 and weekends through Sep. 6. Families can enjoy a lazy river, double slides, a zero-depth play area and plenty of space for little ones to splay and play. Day passes are just $7.50 for children ages 2-17 and $10 for adults, making it an easy and budget-friendly way to enjoy a summer day with the whole family.

You can also make a splash at Pirates Cove in Englewood, open through Aug. 9. The park features waterslides, a lazy river, interactive play areas and other family-friendly attractions. Admission is $11 for children ages 2-17 on weekdays ($12 on weekends) and $12 for adults on weekdays ($13 on weekends), making it another affordable option for family fun.

Hop Aboard a Family Train Adventure

Take a scenic ride through downtown Denver on the Platte Valley Trolley, a historic streetcar that operates Thursday through Monday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., through Aug. 10. The 25-minute round trip departs from Confluence Park (2250 15th St.) every 30 minutes and includes stops near the Downtown Aquarium and Children’s Museum of Denver. Tickets are $5 for children ages 4-12, $10 for adults and free for children ages 3 and under.

For an even more budget-friendly adventure, climb aboard the Summer Tebo Train for a free ride along Boulder’s Pearl Street. Children ages 10 and under, along with a grown-up, can enjoy a ride on this electric, trackless train, operating Monday through Friday mornings through Sep. 4. Boarding takes place in front of the Wells Fargo Bank (1242 Pearl St.), with the last train departing at 11 a.m. It’s a fun way for families to start the day before exploring the shops, restaurants and parks along Pearl Street.

Take Advantage of Free Days at Top Denver Attractions

Explore some of Denver’s top museums and attractions without the admission price. Thanks to the Scientific and Cultural Facilities District (SCFD), families can enjoy free admission to select museums, cultural destinations and other attractions on designated Free Days throughout the year.

SCFD supports nearly 300 arts, cultural and scientific organizations across the Front Range, making it easier for families to discover new places together. Mark your calendars for these upcoming Free Days in August and check out the full 2026 schedule for even more opportunities to save.
