DPP is excited to introduce the 2017-2018 Forum training series on Family Engagement. We invite our preschool program directors and teachers to gather for a unique, enriching experience while earning professional development clock hours. The Forum is free for DPP directors and teachers.


Forum 3: Communication Practices That Build Family Capacity

Speakers: Jenni Brasington, Scholastic Family and Community Engagement (FACE)

During this session participants will learn and practice strategies for engaging families at home and at school that build capacity. Teachers will learn how to move from compliance engagement to implementing quality interactions with families anytime anywhere. During this session, you will learn how to understand the difference between oneway and two-way communication, learn how to invite dialogue rather than telling parents what to do, and learn the importance of active listening.


Forum 4: Differentiating Family Support: Equitable Strategies to Meet the Needs of All Families

Speakers: Jenni Brasington and Maria Fernandez, Scholastic Family and Community Engagement (FACE)

During this session participants learn how to move beyond implementing “one size fits all” family engagement to implementing strategies that individualize and recognize the unique strengths of each family. By the end, they will understand the importance of respecting and addressing the needs of all families and learn strategies to tailor practices to unique cultural and linguistic family needs.


We encourage participants to attend all four module trainings as they build on one another, but we welcome participation in one, two or three trainings. Earn extra points towards your early childhood professional credential by attending the full training series.
