The namesakes of the Grupo de trabajo sobre cuidado infantil de Haynes-Gary, a new focus of Denver Mayor’s Mayor Mike Johnston’s newly established Iniciativa de cuidado infantil para todos, Anna Jo Garcia Haynes and Nancy Gary recently shared a call to action to “challenge our leaders to build the childcare system our community deserves.”
Both Anna Jo Garcia Haynes and Nancy Gary are lifelong leaders who helped shape Denver’s early childhood landscape. Anna Jo Garcia Haynes is president emeritus of Mile High Early Learning. Nancy Gary is co-founder of Empresas comunitarias de Gary. DPP honored Anna Jo Garcia Haynes in 2023 with the Denver Preschool Program Legacy Award in recognition of her leadership and lasting impact on Denver’s early childhood education community.
Their call to action stresses two main points about what need to happen to make childcare accessible and affordable for all famlies:
- Make life easier for families.
- Value the people providing care.
