César Chávez Day, celebrated each year on March 31, honors a leader who stood up for fairness and respect for farmworkers. César Chávez Day was first celebrated as a federal holiday in the United States in 2014. His legacy or advocacy continues to inspire preschoolers and people of all ages.

Born in 1927, César Chávez was a Mexican-American labor leader and civil rights activist who co-founded the United Farm Workers (UFW) union. He dedicated his life to making sure workers were treated fairly. He used peaceful protests including strikes, boycotts, and marches to advocate for others.

Preschoolers can learn about Chávez and his impact through books and simple activities. Here are some fun and meaningful ways to celebrate this day with your little one!
