Shontel M. Lewis

Denver City Council Member, District 8

Shontel M. Lewis, born and raised in Denver’s historic Five Points, brings a wealth of experience and dedication to her role as a board member of the Denver Preschool Program. She is a proud mother of two boys and a graduate of Manual High School and the University of Colorado Denver.

Shontel’s journey has been one of redemption, second chances, and transformation, marked by personal growth and resilience. From her beginnings as a student in Denver Public Schools, she rose to become a director at DPS, leading family and community engagement initiatives. Her perseverance led her to the role of Vice President at the Colorado Coalition for the Homeless.

As a young mother and full-time student, Shontel’s determination saw her through three-hour bus rides and multiple jobs, ultimately leading to her election as a Director at the Regional Transportation District (RTD) Board. There, she served as the inaugural Chair of the Performance Committee, playing a key role in developing the agency’s strategic priorities and advocating for RTD frontline staff during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Shontel is an unapologetic Black, Queer Woman, grounded in her values of love and humanity. She is committed to fighting for justice and infusing city government with policy expertise and a lens for equity.
